We deal with eachother to living like a couple but I respect her boundaries. I don't do anything which is against her boundaries or made her uncomfortable. Never...

I slept on couch..

HIMADRI POV

The sun was slowly coming up. Its soft light crept through the curtains and fell quietly across the floor.

I opened my eyes.

My body felt heavy. Tired. Like sleep hadn't really done anything for me. And just like that - before I was even fully awake - yesterday came rushing back. The dinner.

The family call. The embarrassment on Veeranshu's face when Kirti said that thing about a baby. The way I laughed like an idiot after he ran out of the hall.

I smiled a little, just remembering it.

But then I thought about Veeranshu.

I looked over at the couch.

He wasn't there.

The blanket was folded neatly. The couch was empty. He was already gone - probably that important meeting he always has, running his whole empire like the world depends on it.

I sat up slowly and looked around. That's when I noticed my phone near the table - and next to it, a small folded note.

I got up and picked up the note.

It said:

"Mrs. Singhania, when you wake up you had your phone. Now happy. You are going shopping with your friends so go safely. I didn't want to disturb you, I have an important meeting so I'll come back late at night. Enjoy your day and your freedom."

I read it once.

Then I read it again.

And then this big, stupid smile just took over my face.

I literally jumped on my bed like a monkey. Like the happiest person alive. I don't even know why. It was just a note. A simple little note. But something about it - the fact that he remembered I wanted to go shopping, the fact that he left my phone, the fact that he said enjoy your freedom - just made me feel really, really good.

And I mean he had to do it because he is a man so it's just bare minimum. Obviously.

But still.

All that tiredness? Gone.

I was still smiling like a fool when I picked up my phone and turned the screen on.

And then I stopped smiling.

18 missed calls. Himakshi and Namita.

5 missed calls. My parents.

And the WhatsApp group - I scrolled and scrolled and the notifications just wouldn't end. Message after message after message, the whole night's worth of panic sitting right there on my screen.

I took one breath.

And I video called Himakshi and Namita.

They picked up instantly.

ON CALL:

Himakshi had a full dupatta on her head like she was in a TV serial.

"zinda hai !!" she screamed.

["SHE'S ALIVE!!"]

I burst out laughing - "Ye dupatta kyu hai sir pe?"

["Why is there a dupatta on your head??"]

"Matam mana rahi thi teri yaad mein," she said completely seriously.

["I was mourning in your memory."]

Namita appeared from behind her - "Maine literally tera obituary likh diya tha WhatsApp pe."

["I literally wrote your obituary on WhatsApp."]

"NAMITA-"

"Don't worry maine delete kar diya. Jab tera phone laga tab." She shrugged like it was nothing.

["Don't worry I deleted it. When your phone finally connected."]

Then Himakshi slowly pulled the dupatta off her head.

Her expression changed completely.

She looked straight into the camera with the flattest, coldest face I had ever seen on her.

"Mrs. Himadri Singhania."

"Yaar-"

"Finally," Namita said, crossing her arms.

"Finally you remembered. That you have two besties. Who exist. On this planet."

"Tum dono sun-" ["You two listen-"]

"No YOU listen," Namita cut in. "18 calls. 18. Do you know what time we finally slept last night? 4 am. 4 AM Himadri."

I opened my mouth.

"Chup." Himakshi pointed straight at the screen. ["Quiet."]

I closed my mouth.

"Ab bol. Kya hua tha." Her voice was still flat.

["Now speak. What happened."]

I looked at both of them - tired eyes, messy hair, genuine worry hiding behind all that pettiness and anger.

"Yaar phone nahi tha mere paas," I said quietly.

["Yaar I didn't have my phone."]

Namita's eyes narrowed - "Kyu nahi tha?" ["Why didn't you have it?"]

I hesitated for a second.

"Or kon hoga yaar. Sala vahi madarc*d."

["Or who else. That motherfucker."]

Silence.

Both of them just stared at me.

Then Himakshi's voice came out softer -

"Theek hai tu? Sach mein?"

["You okay? Really?"]

"Haan. Pakka."

["Yes. Promise."]

"Pakka promise?" Namita asked.

["Really promise?"]

"Pakka promise." I smiled a little.

They both let out a long breath at the same time.

"Ab sab bata," Himakshi said, pulling her blanket around herself and settling in.

"Poori kahani. Kuch mat chhodna."

["Now tell everything. Full story. Don't leave anything out."]

So I told them. Everything. The dinner. The family video call. Kirti's baby comment. Veeranshu choking on his water. Me laughing like an idiot after he ran out. Him sleeping on the couch. And then this morning - waking up, the empty couch, the note.

By the time I finished, both of them were completely silent.

For exactly three seconds.

"YAR VOH NOTE." Namita literally grabbed Himakshi's arm. "VOH NOTE YAAR."

"I KNOW," Himakshi grabbed her back.

"Guys it was just a note-" I started.

"JUST A NOTE??" Namita looked personally offended.

"Himadri he remembered the shopping. He left your phone. He said enjoy your day AND your freedom - FREEDOM yaar. Koi aisa likhta hai kya??"

["Does anyone write like that??"]

"Thabhi to maei use galiyaan deti hu".

"Aur couch pe soya," Himakshi added, pointing at me like she was presenting evidence in court.

"Boundaries respect kiye. Himadri yaar."

["And he slept on the couch. He respected your boundaries. Himadri yaar."]

"Tum dono over react kar rahe ho," I said firmly. ["You two are overreacting."]

"Hum over react nahi kar rahe," Namita said. "Tu under react kar rahi ho."

["We are not overreacting. You are underreacting."]

"He is literally my husband by force-"

"Jo couch pe sota hai," Himakshi said sweetly.

["Who sleeps on the couch."]

"Jo shopping yaad rakhta hai," Namita added.

["Who remembers the shopping."]

"Jo note likhta hai," Himakshi again.

["Who writes notes."]

"BAS." I pointed at the screen.

["ENOUGH."]

Both of them immediately pressed their lips together. Trying so hard not to smile. Failing completely.

"Himadri," Namita said, in the most serious voice she could manage. "Hum sirf yeh keh rahe hain."

["Himadri. We are just saying this."] She paused.

Ek important cheez."

["One important thing."]

"Tune mere parents ko sach bataya?" I asked, suddenly remembering.

["Did you tell my parents the truth?"]

Himakshi and Namita looked at each other.

"Nahi," Namita said simply.

["No."]

"Toh??" ["Then??"]

"Humne bola," Himakshi started casually, like she was discussing the weather, "ki tu bahut busy hai. Tu Italy gyi hai koi conference or meetingske liye . Tu itni busy hai ki call bhi nahi utha sakti. Toh chinta mat karo."

["We told them that you are very busy. You went to Italy for conference or meetings. You are so busy you can't even pick up calls. So don't worry."]

I stared at them.

" Italy for meetings??"

"Unhone believe kar liya," Namita shrugged proudly. ["They believed it."]

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"Yaar," I said after a second, my voice going soft. "Thank you. Seriously. Vo log bahut worry karte hain mere liye."

["Yaar. Thank you. Seriously. They worry so much about me."]

"Haan hum jaante hain," Himakshi said simply. "Isliye toh kiya."

["Yes we know. That's why we did it."]

For a moment nobody said anything.

These two idiots. These absolute idiots. With their dupatta mourning and fake obituaries and meetings and conference in ITALY - they had spent the whole night awake, covering for me, making sure my parents didn't panic.

And then I looked at the time.

"GUYS."

"Kya hua?" Namita asked.

["What happened?"]

"Hum DOO ghante se baat kar rahe hain."

["We have been talking for two hour."]

Silence.

"DOO GHANTA??" Himakshi screamed.

"YAAR SUNOO," I said loudly over both of them.

["GUYS LISTEN."]

"I finally have freedom from this cage. Veeranshu gaya hai. Phone wapas mil gaya. Aaj hum bahar ja rahe hain. SHOPPING. AB. JAO READY HO JAO."

["Veeranshu is gone. I got my phone back. Today we are going out. SHOPPING. NOW. GO GET READY."]

For exactly one second they both just stared at me.

Then absolute chaos.

"NAMITAAA CHAL CHAL CHAL-"

"MERA OUTFIT KIDHAR HAI-"

"EK GHANTE MEIN MILTE HAIN HIMADRI-"

The call cut.

I sat there on my bed, phone in hand, still smiling like an idiot.

Freedom.

I got up and went to get ready..

AUTHOR POV

Black fitted pinafore-style mini dress layered over a crisp white collared short-sleeve shirt, giving a classy soft-girl and preppy vibe. Styled with sheer black tights and sleek black knee-high boots for a polished, feminine look. The deep red beret-style cap and matching shoulder bag.

(Itna to chalta hai yrr 💅)

She ready by 2 'o clock, eating something and then leave the vilaa.

She went to the mall. She wait for 10 minutes for them.

She mumbled to her-" Abe yaar kha reh gyi ye dono!! Time par nai aasakti ek din bhi".

["Damn yaar, where are these two stuck? They seriously can't come on time even for one single day."]

She was about to call but suddenly someone hit her hard ftom back. When she felt a hard pain she turned back with anger but when she turned instead of getting angry she smiled and hugged tightly.

They are none of them . Yes.

HIMAKSHI AJD NAMITA.

Only they have nerve to hit her or no one else..

They hugged each other tightly. A tear escaped from himadri 's . A women who never cried is melt in their warmth..

Himakshi want to cool the environment so she spell dramatically-" are!! are!! Namita jaldi photo kich yaar.. Ladko ko rulane wali aaj khud ro rhi hai .. esa moment baar- baar dekno ko nai milega ".

["Arre! Arre! Namita, click a photo quickly yaar... The girl who makes boys cry is crying herself today. We won't get to see a moment like this again and again."]

Namita replied instantly-" haan. Haan ruk ek minute "

[Yes. Yes. Wait a minute]

Himadri hit them in teasing way and said while cried-" shut up both of you ".

And then they break the hug and laughed.

Namita and himakshi both wipe the tears of himadri and said -" tu rote nai ladko ko rulate hue acchi lagti hai ".

["You don't look good crying... you look better making boys cry."]

Himadri hit them a little. Then they went for shopping.

They stepped in different shops. They but dresses, heels, shoes, skincare, bags, makeup etc..

They all tired . Namita mumbled-" guyss aaj to bhout maze aaye chalo ab kuch khane chalte hai yr .".

["Guys, today was seriously so much fun. Come on, let's go eat something now."]

Himakshi replied in favor to her - Haan yaar bhuk lo lagi hai or 5 bej gye shopping krte krte."

["Yeah yaar, I'm starving. It's already 5 PM after all this shopping."]

Himadri stopped to them -" are ruko yaar mujhe or kuch saman bhi lena hai abhi ".

["Arre wait yaar, I still need to buy a few more things."]

Namita said dramatically-" ab or kyaa chaiyeeee! Litna to saman leli".

["What else do you even needddd? You've already bought so much stuff."]

Himadri replied to them -" bas ek last shop guyss please yaar chalo".

["Just one last shop, guys. Please yaar, come on."]

Himakshi and namita aggre because they don't have any option.

Himadri went inside a Indian clothing brand.

She eneter and start to buy some saree 's and suit.

Himakshi and namita looked at eachother with shocked face . They asked to her -" bhai tu sach mei iss shadi ko manti hai kya??".

["Bro, do you actually accept this marriage or what?"]

Himadri replied qhile choosing a saree-" nai to yaar pagal hai kya".

["No way yaar, are you mad?"]

Namita interrupted and asked-" to fir ye sab kyu le rhi hai.Tu to ye phenti bhi nai hai".

["Then why are you buying all this? You don't even wear these kinds of clothes."]

Himadri replied to them while paying the payment-" baad mei btati hu ".

[" I tell you later".]

They nodded their heads after an hour they finally done from shopping.

It's 6'o clock in evening. They all were tied and hungry.

Himadri looked a deep breath-" finally ho gya . Chalo ab kuch khate hai".

["Finally done. Now let's go eat something."]

They wents towards a restaurant. They placed the bags on the sofa. And then they ordered meals or beverages ..

Then Himakshi asked -" Chal humen bata ki tunhe saree or suit's kyon liye hai? Matlab tu phenti nai hai na ??."

["First tell us why you bought sarees and suits. I mean, you never wear them, right?"]

Himadri was about to say something, but Namita interrupted in between -" khai tune ye shaddi ko to nai maan liya hai??".

["Don't tell me you've actually accepted this marriage?"]

Himaakshii, asked dramatically-" kyaaaa! tu pagal hai? ".

["Whattt! Are you crazy?"]

Namita bigger her eyes-" tu esa kese kar sakti hai ??".

["How you do this??"]

They both said at se time-" bol na ab kuch-".

["Then speak up now-"]

Himadri shouted at them -" chup kar jaoooo deviyooooo!!! Or mujhe bolne to do tum ".

["Shut upppp, you goddesses!!! At least let me talk first!"]

They both went quit and himadri take a deep breath and said-" meri baat kaan kholke sunna aur uske baad kuch react karna ".

["Listen to me carefully first, and then react after that."]

They nodded. Himadri started to tell them -" Yaar, tumhe maine bataaya tha na ki jis din main or veeranshu khana bana rhe the."

["Friend, I told you, right, about the day when Veeranshu and I were cooking?"]

She paused.

" to us din dadi aur ghar pe aayi the aur unnse veeranshu ne juth bola diya mei uski biwi hu ".

["Well, on that day, Dadi came over and Veeranshu lied to her, saying that I am his wife."]

Namita interrupted and said qhile rolled her eyes -: to usme juth kya bola usne . I mean tumne shaddi ki hai ".

["So what did he lie about, I mean, you guys are married."]

Himadri give her a death glare and she paused. Himadri continued -" to unne esa lagta hai ki ham dono ek dusre se pyaar krete hai. " She paused.

["So now she thinks that we love each other, and because of that, there is a puja at their house and she wants me to attend it."]

-" or yhi ki ghar mei Pooja hai to mei uss puja mei aayu. Or haan phele hi btadu dadi ne otne pyaar se bola tha ki mei mna nai kar payi yaar".

["And let me tell you beforehand, Dadi asked so lovingly that I just couldn't say no."]

Himakshi and namita went blank for a moment and then Himakshi said -" are ye to acchi baat hai yaar" .

["Oh, but that's actually a good thing, friend!"]

Namita asked -" kese aachi baat hai . Ye to musibat hai esa bol.".

["How on earth is it a good thing, call it a disaster instead!"]

Himakshi replied-" are pagal dimag se soch . Apn ko Himadri ko wha se nikalna hai right?.

["Hey idiot, think logically, we need to get Himadri out of there, right?"]

" Right-" namita said .

Then Himakshi said -" to accha hai na ye wha ja rhi hai ".

["So it's great that she is going there."]

Still Himadri and namita in confusion. They said qith sync-" kese too!!".

["But how?!"]

Himakshi placed her one hand on her forehead-" abbey. Suno agar hame Himadri ko vha se nikalna hai tu hme phele veeranshu le bare me jaanna hoga . "

["Come on, listen, if we want to get Himadri out of there, we first need to know everything about Veeranshu."]

"Matlab ki vo kese rehte hai? Uska behavior? Uska past ? Jisse hamme help mil sake ki vo kha tak soch sakta hai . Or uski family se better use koi nai janta "

["Meaning, how he lives, his behavior, his past, so that it can help us figure out how far he can think."]

Himadri said with happiness-" areee haan yaar ! Ye mast idea hai."

["Yess.. this a good idea"]

They three of them high-five to eachother then Himadri said -" guyss tum bhi chalna . Vese bhi wha sabke liye mei us rakshak ki biwi hu to Pooja ke din simple si baat hai ki mei bahu wali zimmadariyaan uthaugi . To tum ye kaam krna ."

["Guys, you should come along too, because anyway, over there everyone thinks I am that monster's wife, so on the day of the puja, it is only natural that I take on the responsibilities of a daughter-in-law, meaning you guys should handle this task."]

Himakshi pointed finger -" point hai !".

["That makes total sense!"]

Himakshi said -" chalo fir yhi krte hai or dadi ko to mei bol dugi maan jayegi who".

["Alright then, let's do exactly this, and as for Dadi, I will talk to her and she will easily agree."]

Again they high five to eachother. The food is arrived and they stared eating. The happiness on their face was another level. No one cam tell that they are best friends. They are sister's broo.
